Yes well part 2 of the Southland Modified Champs will go this weekend (10th March) .. Thats hope the bloody weather gets it right this weekend. Its been a shocker for the end of the season down this part of the country. Mind you.. the North Island had it at the start of the season. Weird weather patterns huh?

Latest update on the Clay Cup.... Unfortunately due to a lack of competitors across the classes the two night deal has been dropped back to a single meeting on Saturday March 17. The Clay Cup will still go ahead and will be on the programme along with the Salute to Goodie sprintcar classic and the Canterbury Solo Champs* We tried our hardest to get a few minisprints down to boost the ranks for the night without success - dunno whats going on up that way they seem keen as mustard, then pull out at the last minute Are they scared of the modifiedsprints???)....guess at least we tried... Hopefully the weather gods WILL play their part this weekend...be great to see a good crowd at Ruapuna For more details: www.modifiedsprints.co.nzwww.ruapunaspeedway.co.nzChris

I have been informed that the 2012 Modifiedsprint Clay Cup has taken a major blow this weekend, with the southland champs being resheduled for the same night From what I can gather this will now be a "local darby"........with none of the Invercargill contingient making the journey up. I know Jase doesn't want "negative posts" on here, but this isnt a good look for the class...a lot of hard work has gone into the organisation of the Clay Cup to the point that it was being advertised as the "premier event" of the night...now it seems that has all gone to waste. I feel sorry for the sponsors who (I feel) wont be getting the best value for their dollars spent. Some of the gloss has been taken away from this event...and it may come back to "bite us in the butt" next season....for the guys in Christchurch I hope not... Chris

Pleasantly surprised to see the trio of Shaun Harris, Craig Phillips and Glen Finlay make the trip up for the Clay cup in the end...great night of hard fought action on a perfect track....
And the visit was worth it for two of the Invers guys....Shaun Harris claimed 2nd, and Craig Phillips took out third, behind local Christchurch driver Keiran Harris who took out a well deserved win in the 15 lap feature....Congrats Guys!
Have to feel for Glen Finlay.....travelled all the way up to end up on his lid in the first heat, he did however walk away un-harmed and was awarded with the "hard Luck" award for his efforts. He later admitted to me that Ruapuna is his bogey track, and did mutter something about not coming back :-) ....To which I replied that we would stop sending our guys down to Invers, coz when we do it always rains! :-)
Many thanks to the guys for travelling and also to the sponsors of the meeting for the modifiedsprint Clay Cup: Avon Insurance Brokers, T George Ltd, Innes Engineering and Hancroft NZ ltd.
A much happier Chris :-)
