It's great to see the modifiedsprints moving forward in the south - as usual we always hear stories of "XXX amount of people wanting to join the class" and while these stories are always positive when we hear them they almost always never take hold and turn into numbers.....
This season however has seen a turn in popularity of the Southern based small winged class...the class is steadily growing in the deep south and things are holding somewhat steady in Christchurch......to the point where we will see a couple of new machines on the track next season.
The classes inclusion at Riverside Speedway has been a great step for the class, as has the annual visits to Cromwell at Easter and Xmas.....now we can add to that the addition of outings at Dunedin's Island Park Speedway.
This coming weekend (fri/sat 30-31) see's the class return to Dunedin with a little unfinished business, after the last outing was called short due to the speedway's time restriction. The promotions team at Dunedin has kindly put up yet another "title" for the class to contest with the addition of an OTAGO champs.
Unfortunately it looks as if numbers will be a little thin, with a bulk of the Christchurch competitors heading up north to Western Springs as spectators for the World Solo Speedway GP....however a good turn out of Invercargill based drivers will be making the haul up to compete....
We would like to extend our thanks to all the tracks who have hosted the class over this season (yeah I know there's still a few meetings to go) Thanks to Jase for his support of the class and steadily pushing things along by being informative bout the class as well - it's surely paid dividends with people's interest in the class (either as potential drivers, or spectators)
